My kind of lunch

At the sidewalk cafeteria around the corner from my office, you can choose 3 dishes for 35 bhat (about $1). I got minced pork with garlic, basil and chilies; sweet bamboo shoots with egg and vermicelli; and a side of tom kha (sweet coconut milk soup flavored with sour keffir lime juice and fish sauce, spicy galanga and filled with mushrooms and what I think was chicken).

On return, we found that a co-worker had brought in homemade pak joh (sp?), a traditional Shan dish. It's rice paste stuffed with vegetables (kind of like a polenta, but smoother and lighter), packed into squares and wrapped in banana leaves, and then smothered in a sauce of what tasted like tomato and onion. The whole thing is topped off with fried garlic and onions. Hooray for second lunch! (When did I become a Hobbit???)

For later: mango sticky rice. If I can wait until later.

UPDATE: I could not wait until later.
