During my first few days of exploring, I've discovered some cool things in Chiang Mai. These pictures are of a place called At Niman, a "conceptual home," bar, restaurant, bookstore, and art gallery, among other things. These multi-functional places are, I think, very Thai; unlike New York, where there's only enough space for one endeavor--and usually not even enough space for that-- Thailand seems like ground zero for the combo business. One of my favorite places in Bangkok, It's Happened to Be a Closet, is housed in a huge black teak building and is a restaurant/boutique/cigar lounge/hair and nail salon. Also, I once went to a performance of Japanese butoh dance on the top floor of a BMW dealership.
Anyway, when I stopped by At Niman, it didn't look like anyone was (conceptually) home, so I snooped around and took pictures. I definitely plan to go back to eat/drink/observe art. For all I know there's a Sunglass Hut inside so maybe I'll check that out too.

Amazing, Alex. What a cool experience-- it's so exciting to remove oneself from one's comfort zone and see how much of how we perceive space is entirely context-specific. Keep it coming!
